TIA, ISO, and IEEE are beginning to define global standards for 10Gbps applications. Under such circumstances, Lucent Technologies has introduced the SYTIMAX LazrSPEED, a multimode fiber cabling solution that combines next-generation performance and backward compatibility. The solution to achieve 10Gbps transmission speed with 1300nm single-mode fiber is costly and can not be guaranteed to be backward compatible. Now another technique is being developed to achieve 10Gbps performance on common multimode fiber called CWDM, but because existing multi-mode cables are not designed to support 10Gbps speeds, The CWDM solution must be compensated by multiple laser sources, combiners, splitters and detectors. These extra electronic devices make CWDM an expensive option. The LazrSPEED solution includes a new type of optical fiber designed by Lucent to solve the problem of drastic performance degradation when data signals are transmitted at 10 Gbps on a normal multimode optical fiber. new
