Although palliative radiotherapy for metastatic carcinoma of the brain may result in the relief of neurological symptoms and improvement of the patient’s quality of life, the results are still unsatisfactory. The median number of patients in radiotherapy after radiotherapy is only 10 to 40 weeks. In order to study the results of different doses of palliative radiotherapy for brain metastases, 309 cases of brain metastases were provided from 31 medical units participating in the American Cancer Radiotherapy Cooperative Group from May 1976 to August 1979, and 225 of them had only one metastasis. Cases were randomized into groups. It was divided into a 3000 rad group (3000 rad/10 times/2 weeks) and a 5000 rad group (5000 rad/20 times/4-5 weeks). To estimate the efficacy, the observed items were: the cause of death, the number of minutes in the room, the improvement of neurological symptoms, and the median time for symptom improvement after radiotherapy.
