Objective To explore the relationship between anxiety and type A behavior of seafarers and hypertension. Methods A total of 4 072 seafarers were tested for blood pressure according to a uniform standard. According to the unified guideline, the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and the type A behavioral rating scale were filled in. Results SAS scores of all seamen (43.63 ± 9.57) were significantly higher than those of Chinese norm (P <0.01). SAS and A type of behavior in hypertension group were significantly higher than the normal group (P <0.01). Correlation and regression analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between SAS and A type scores and blood pressure (P <0.01). Conclusions Anxiety and type A behavior are the factors influencing blood pressure, and mental health support for seafarers should be strengthened.
