Changes in proteins during compatible and incompatible interaction between rice and Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae were analysed by two dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, in which resistant and susceptible near isogenic lines of rice, wild strain and its avirulant gene mutant of X. oryzae pv. oryzae were used as materials. It was found that at least two of the pathogenesis related proteins produced sooner and more greatly in incompatible interaction than that in compatible, and they were related obviously with the resistance to X. oryzae pv. oryzae in rice. The two resistance related proteins might be the expressed products of defense genes involved in resistance to X. oryzae pv. oryzae or play some role in regulation of the defense gene expression.
