Hester Prynne, the heroine of The Scarlet Letter, has long been regarded as a female figure recognized through self-redemption. This article will explain her experience through the paradigm of collective persecution and find out why she is the “scapegoat” at the heart of what people think about “differences.” The difference means that the allegation, the verdict a victim, the author of using this ancient “scapegoat” prototype, in fact, has the practical significance of transcending time and space.
