This paper explores the distribution of words, phrases, constructions and semantic networks in English native speakers’ languages. It is found that the Zipf distribution exists at all levels, which highlights the importance of “high frequency ”. Second language learners’ use of English language presents “Teddy Bear ”: excessive use of individual high - frequency words or phrases, the level of active use of high - frequency words or phrases lacking. On the other hand, teaching practice should focus on activating high-frequency language point, the high-frequency words or phrases from the passive cognitive level Activate to the active use level.
