Objective: To investigate the expression of β-catenin in human glioma and its relationship with the occurrence and development of glioma. Methods: The expression of β-catenin in normal brain tissue and glioma specimens was detected by RT-PCR, Western Blot and immunohistochemistry. Results: With the increase of grade of glioma, the expression of β-cate-nin at mRNA and protein levels gradually increased, with statistical significance (P <0.05). The expression of β-catenin in high-grade gliomas was significantly higher than that in lower gliomas (P <0.01). Immunohistochemistry and the above results are similar to all levels of glioma and normal controls were statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion: The expression of β-catenin increases with the malignant degree of glioma, suggesting that β-catenin may be involved in the development and progression of glioma.
