This article is published in the section of “Foreign Animal Husbandry - Grassland”, 3rd issue, 1982, commemorating the article by George Van Dyne (1932-1981), a famous American prairie ecologist. He is a prairie scientist who has made outstanding achievements in contemporary life and only lived for 48 years. To make such an outstanding achievement in his short life, there is room for thought provoking. He is a man who has personally experienced the life of a prairie caravan. With such a profound foundation of life, going deep into modern grassland science naturally has its own special implication. In the context of animal nutrition, he has extensively involved relevant disciplines, especially in terms of measurement, observation and data processing. Such as obtaining the biometrics and biochemistry certificate, computer certificate, scientific research and scientific management of basic operating tools certificate. More focused on the relationship between soil, plant, animal, model system analysis and computer applications in biology, as well as scientific management and planning and so on. To make his scientific thinking plugged in the wings of the fly, and thus made ordinary achievements unattainable. George W. Dain’s case tells us that past grassland scientists and today’s grass-roots scientists are trying hard and have no shortcut to go.
