In the 1.6 million square kilometers of land in Xinjiang, hundreds of small oases are surrounded by deserts. For hundreds of years, mankind has struggled to flourish on these oases. Activities such as farming, housing construction and wage cutting continue to worsen the already fragile ecological environment. In order to allow scarred habitats to breathe, these people have to leave their beloved homes and relocate to other places. Since the end of the last century, the project of ecological resettlement started in Xinjiang has displaced 150,000 people from different places in the ecologically-degraded areas.
