The capacity of urban rail transit system is configured according to the demand of peak hourly volume. Due to unbalanced passenger flow in different periods, the use of residual energy in off-peak periods is a problem worth studying. Taking the Shanghai Metro as a background, this paper discusses the market conditions, operation methods and related impacts of time-varying fares. It is considered that the metro transit system in our country has the market and the need to implement fare sub-periods
