鳕鱼,俗称大头鱼,大头青、大口鱼,又称乌口鱼。鳕形目,鳕科,体长,稍侧扁,有波浪形花纹,鱼体呈灰褐色,有不规则的暗褐色斑点,尾部自前向后,渐细、体长为20～60厘米。头较大,颌部有一触须,背鳍3个,臀鳍2个。各鳍均没有硬棘,两颌及犁骨有绒毛状细牙,鳞小,侧线鳞不明显。
