大宝山是一个大型多金属矿区,位于粤北山字型前弧东翼内侧,北江新华夏断裂带的东侧,大东-贵东-九连山东西构造带与北江新华夏系构造带复合处.区内出露地层主要为泥盆纪及石炭纪的一套滨海—浅海相砂页岩-碳酸盐建造,次为寒武纪浅变质砂板岩建造.局部尚有早侏罗世陆盆成煤建造.区内断裂发育.火成活动主要有燕山Ⅳ期次英安斑岩和Ⅴ期花岗闪长(斑)岩.船肚-大宝山花岗闪长(斑)岩体,受东西构造控制,东西长3200米,南北宽300~600米,最宽处达800米,呈岩株状产出.岩体受几组断裂破坏错移600米,成为船肚岩体与大宝山岩体的分界线.船肚岩体被剥蚀,
