South Korea is a small country with very poor natural resources in East Asia. In 1962, when South Korea started its first five-year plan for economic development, GNP was only 2.3 billion U.S. dollars and its GNP per capita was only 87 U.S. dollars. However, in just two or three decades, South Korea achieved its economic take-off and development from one of the least developed countries in Asia to a newly industrialized nation that created the marvelous Han River Miracle. In 1996, the per capita GNP in South Korea exceeded 10,000 U.S. dollars and GNP reached 440 billion U.S. dollars, entering the ranks of high-income countries. What makes South Korea such an amazing miracle in such a short period of time is due to many reasons that South Korea's unique corporate culture is one of the important reasons.
