《剿闯小说》是一部重要的时事小说,它有多种版本,其中藏于台湾“国图”的写刻本与藏于日本内阁文库的兴文馆刊本代表着两种早期版本系统,二者内容差异甚大,其出版先后问题也关系到对此书的政治倾向和写作方法的评判。台湾学者认为台北藏本为目前可见最早版本,而日本内阁文库藏本是后出之本。通过两本的序、图像和正文内容的多方面细致比对,并联系史料分析,可以证明台北藏本是从内阁本演变而来的一个版本,关于台湾“国图”藏本是现存最早版本之说不能成立。借此也说明时事小说深受时局变化影响,即使是同一种小说也有可能随着现实情势推移而出现改动,形成不同的版本系统。
