目前,在美国和西欧,人们感兴趣的波段是毫米波波段(18千赫以上)。因为毫米波系统可提供高分辩率和精度,这两点在军用和民用雷达中,特别是在近距离内,都是非常必要的。另外在恶劣的环境中,如雨、雾、烟中,毫米波具有超群的工作本领。人们普遍的认为,未来的毫米波系统将会越来越依赖单片集成电路,而其所用天线也将采用毫米波半导体偶极子天线。尤其在通讯系统中,这种天线是既简单又适用的形式。
