50年代初期,曾听一位参加中国首届戏曲观摩会演的同志说,周恩来总理看了楚剧《葛麻》后非常高兴。他亲切地问中南代表团的成员,《葛麻》的原作者是谁?当时谁也回答不了,总理便说:请你们回去进行调查,查明了原作者,要为他树碑立传。遗憾的是,因年代久远,资料匮乏,至今仍无法查明《葛麻》的原作者究竟是谁。前几年我查阅了有关资料,发现《打葛麻》并不是楚剧独有的剧目,湖北省的荆州花鼓戏、襄阳花鼓戏、随州花鼓戏、阳新采茶戏、黄梅采茶戏和皖南、赣南、豫南、湖南花鼓戏都有这个剧目,而且剧中的人物、故事、情节大致相同或相似,只是剧目的名称不尽相同,戏的思想性和艺术性各有强弱、高低之分。其中,楚
