包钢平炉冶炼条件严苛,长期以来出钢口蚀损严重,恶性跑漏事故时有发生,不能保证持续安全生产。不但日常维修劳动强度很大,而且冷热修率很高,影响炉龄下降。1975年秋,公司决定由钢厂党委领导,以平炉车间干部工人为主,科技处、中试室、无缝厂等单位参加,组成三结合攻关组,和营口县电熔镁砖厂协作,在鞍钢耐火厂协助下,经半年努力,试制成抗蚀、抗热震、耐高温度的镁质三高预制出钢口砖。1976年4月先在4号平炉重点试用,随后又推广应用于所有平炉,半年多实践证明,出钢口寿命平均达到10~15次,比过去提高2~5倍。长
