In the open heart surgery, EEG and carotid artery blood flow changes in 20 children and adults were observed in order to understand the differences between children’s EEG and adults. The results showed that there was a good correlation between nasal temperature and EEG wave rate, forehead amplitude and occipital amplitude in adults (P <0.001). Carotid artery diameter and carotid mean flow velocity were negatively correlated with EEG amplitude (P <0.05), mean arterial pressure and EEG also had a good correlation (P <0.005). The same applies to the above group of children. The correlation was significant in children than in adults. It is suggested that children’s EEG is more sensitive to changes in the external environment and has greater variability, especially its own variation during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. Due to the double influence of hemodynamics and temperature, children’s EEG are quite different from adults. In particular, In extracorporeal circulation surgery is particularly evident.
