This is a translation of the 1983 edition of the ILO Encyclopaedia of Occupational Safety and Health. This article explains the essentials of labor hygiene practice as well as the scope of responsibility of labor hygienists and occupational physicians. The concept is clear and the guiding ideology is clear.
