1982年8月28日,蔡承云教授因病治疗无效在长沙逝世,终年76岁。蔡承云教授是我国第一位女地质学家,生前任中南矿冶学院教授,湖南省政协委员,湖南省环境保护委员会顾问,中国农工民主党党员。早在青年时期,蔡先生担任了福建龙岩山区中学教员,教授矿物、植物和化学。这时她接触到各种矿物、岩石,对地质学发生了浓厚的兴趣。 1928年蔡教授赴美留学,选学地质学和化学.获地质学学士和矿床学硕士学位。1933 August 28, 1982, Professor Cai Chengyun invalid treatment in Changsha died in Changsha, at the age of 76 years.
