The first book on Latin American communist movement by Chinese scholars, Communist Movements in Latin America summarizes its characteristics as well as its success and failures in its struggles. It also examines the features of the Cuban revolution and challenges posed to the socialist country after the cold war ended. This book also presents a detailed account of the relationship between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and its Latin American counterparts. It even touches a sensitive issue of the impact of the debate between CPC and the Soviet Communist Party in the 1960s upon the communist movement in Latin America. According to the authors, communist movement started in Latin America quite early. It was pushed forward by external forces and influences. However, it failed to incorporate Marxism with national realties. So the communist parties in the region cannot acquire their own theories or win more enough support from the masses
