Stephan Smith is a famous British poet in the first half of the twentieth century. Her poetry often implies solemn and serious themes behind seemingly relaxed forms. Loneliness is one of the most important themes of his poetry. As a medium, loneliness connects the poet closely with the living conditions of Westerners in the early 20th century. Religious belief is another theme of his poetry. The poet’s hesitant attitude toward religion mainly manifests itself in the resolution of the image of God and the understanding of the other shore and the other side of the world. Concern for death is the third theme of his poem. Death is an authentic existence for everyone, but to the poet it is not pain, but new life and hope.
