2009 saw the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. Various activities such as exhibitions, seminars and art performances were held throughout the year to mark the occasion. From November 21 to 29, a 53-member Russian New Siberia Art Troupe paid a friendly visit to Xinjiang, during which it staged two performances together with the Xinjiang Song and Dance Ensemble. The visit was made at the invitation of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Government and the Xinjiang People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Tiliwaldi Abdurixit, Vice Chairman of the Regional Government met with the leaders of the Russian art troupe. He expressed the hope that the visit would further strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between Xinjiang and New Siberia.
