At the California Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester, researchers have developed an ultra-sensitive micro-sensor accelerometer. This device uses laser detection motion, and although the device is small, it can still detect motion with extreme sensitivity. Because of its low mass, it also operates over a wide range of frequency bands, which means it can detect movements occurring in dozens of microseconds, thousands of times faster than currently used sensors.
