当今世界，数据正在爆炸性地增长，世界上每天都会有约15千兆字节的数据产生。这些数据的来源极为复杂，而且其中至少有约80％的新增数据为非结构化内容，如电子邮件、文件、图像、病历、视频、音频等等，这就为重要数据的存储和管理带来了极大的挑战。
