「朵殿崇崇,顾名思义。」「养心」二字语出《孟子·尽心下》:「养心莫善于寡欲。」所谓「养心」,就是培养、修养本心。而「欲」,朱熹言:「如口鼻耳目四支之欲,虽人之所不能无,然多而不节,未有不失其本心者。」以「养心」二字名殿,既寄托了帝王培养本心的愿望,又包含了对耽溺于欲望的劝诫。带着这种希望与劝诫,养心殿经过明清两代至今数百年的风云变幻,留下了历代帝王的印记。明代嘉靖皇帝在这里修玄,万历皇帝在这里藏银;清代顺治皇帝在这里病逝,康熙皇帝在这里学习,雍正皇帝在这里理政,乾隆皇帝在这里欣赏书画……
