OBJECTIVE: To analyze and compare the acoustic parameters of Uyghur consonants / z / Chinese consonants / z / in children with velopharyngeal insufficiency after cleft palate, and to find the general acoustic parameters of cleft palate for both Chinese and Uygur languages. Methods: Thirty-five children with velopharyngeal incompetence after velopharyngeal or palatopharyngectomy who had come to the People’s Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from January 2014 to December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed or prospectively treated with VPH (velopharyngeal insufficiency and 35 normal children from the northern and southern Xinjiang were recorded as normal consonants / z / consonants. The acoustic parameters were extracted by PRAAT software. The first resonance (F1), the second resonance (F2), the third resonance (F3), the fourth resonance (F4), the consonant duration (CD) and the sound intensity (CA). Results: There was significant difference in the F1, F3 and F4 values of the consonants / z / of Uighur between the two groups (P <0.05). The differences of Chinese consonants / z / duration F1, F2 and F3 between the two groups were statistically significant (P <0.05). There were significant differences between F2 and CD values of Uyghur language and Chinese consonants / z / P values in VPI group (P <0.05). There were significant differences in F4 and CD values between normal Uyghur language and Chinese consonants / z / (P <0.05). CONCLUSION: The acoustic parameters of the consonants / z / are significantly different between the children with velopharyngeal insufficiency and the normal children after cleft palate surgery. The cleft palate speech common acoustic parameters exist between the two languages, You can find more common parameters.
