In diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine, patients are often exposed to nonuniform radiation, and although ICRP introduces an effective dose equivalent (H_E) to deal with this problem, it does not explicitly consider the age / sex distribution of the irradiated population and may result in High or low estimates of the hazards associated with the determination of the collective effective dose equivalent PIF ~ i for a given radiation hazard type i = the expected number of effects in the irradiated population / the expected number of effects in the adult (working) population. Group and adult (work) groups receive the same collective H_E.
