As a mass culture, network buzzwords are closely related to social events and social phenomena, and are deep structures that reflect social psychology and social emotion. John Fiske is an important theorist in the field of contemporary cultural studies. His “producer-style texts” theory provides a unique perspective on the interpretation of online buzzwords. The article borrows this theory to examine the textual features, meaning generation and micropolitical functions of cyber buzzwords. Network buzzwords have the features of assembly, relevance, and productive texts. These features call readers to read “generative” by means of irony, metaphor and intertextuality to generate the meaning of the text. In the carnival of symbols, cyber buzzwords have the function of catharsis and emotionality, and the micro-political significance of building identity.
