This paper is intended to illustrate the relation between cohesion, coherence and context and holds the idea that context is an essential condition for cohesion and coherence. Linguistic context and non-linguistic one can achieve cohesion and coherence, respectively. This paper also discusses the implication for second language teaching of reading.
