From August 17 to August 19, 1999, the last national Esperanto conference in this century was held in Guilin, Guangxi Province in southwest China. Nearly 200 Esperantos gathered in this beautiful city, including 3 international friends from Australia, France and Argentina. The opening ceremony for the common cause on the morning of the 17th was presided over by Tan Xiuzhu, president of the All-China Esperanto Association.
