This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC). Its predecessor once belonged to the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Commerce, and this year marks the 60th anniversary of PENT’s first publication. In 1949, there were 120 earthquakes in the “epicenter of the epicenter”, and by 1998 this number had increased to 21,688 (see Figure 1).
