The authors attempted to elucidate the effects of acute hyperglycemia on sorbitol values and to observe the changes in sorbitol values through an oral glucose load test. Subjects and Methods: The subjects were 56 cases of diabetic patients, 27 cases of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and 18 cases of non-diabetic patients. The average age were 55.4, 48.7 and 41.9 years respectively. Including IDDM3 cases, NIDDM53 cases, the average sick for 8 years. The test cases were orally administered with glucose in the fasting morning, and the blood samples were taken at 30, 60, 90, 120 and 180 minutes before the load.
