This article describes the prospects for the use of computers in the healthcare industry in the 1990s and early 2000s. The development of hardware technology will make the 21st century computer smaller, faster, cheaper, and fluid, allowing doctors to easily access comprehensive medical data for diagnosis. The development of software technology will enable doctors to use computers easily, and its key area is application software. By the 21st century, instruments will be based on embedded computers and data networking will be smoother. Data storage and utilization technologies have been improved, and comprehensive information can be easily used by all medical workers. However, economic factors and the ability of the medical and health community to use new computer technologies are two major factors affecting the development of computers in the medical and health industry.
