面对郊区化的蔓延,学界开始出现了以矫正城市病为导向的探索,包括由安德雷斯·杜安伊(Andres Duane)、伊丽莎白·普拉特(Elizabeth Pratt)等提出的传统邻里区开发,以及彼得·卡尔索普(Peter Carl Thorpe)提倡的公共交通导向的邻里区开发等,这就是“新城市主义”理论方法的开端。新城市主义对美国新城建设起到了一定促进作用,改变了人们对传统意义上郊区化蔓延的重新认识和理解。(1)新城市主义对新城的促进作用
