A thermal diffusion technique of Vanadium (referred to as TD technology) carried out in a sand-boron salt tank containing carbon-forming elements can significantly improve the wear resistance and the life of various tool steel forming tools. TD thermal diffusion technology was researched and developed by Toyota in Japan in the early 1970s, and now the production rights of the technology have spread to many companies in Japan, Europe and Australia. In 1987, the technology was sold to several companies in North and South America. They jointly established their own TD center in 1988. During the first nine months of 1991, the center has produced 13,617 kg of tool steel forming tools (1990 annual production of 10,894 kg).
