In the screening of crude drugs with antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, falcarindiol contained in Notopterygium incisio was inhibited against the bacteria. METHODS AND RESULTS: It was found that the ether extracts from Chinese oysters produced were effective against Staphylococcus aureus 209P (as standard bacteria). When the active ingredients were screened, the deactivated n-hexane extract was subjected to silica gel column chromatography and TLC and identified as falcarindiol.
