Objective To investigate the clinical significance of serum levels of serum glycoprotein (KL-6) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in children with viral pneumonia. Methods Seventy children with viral pneumonia were collected from February 2010 to September 2010 and were divided into severe group (35 cases) and non-severe group (35 cases) according to the severity of the disease. The serum levels of KL- 6, LDH levels, and statistical analysis. Results Both KL-6 and LDH in children with severe pneumonia were significantly higher than those in non-severe pneumonia in both acute and convalescent children (all P <0.05). Both children with severe or non-severe pneumonia , KL-6 and LDH in acute phase were significantly higher than those in recovery phase, the difference was statistically significant (all P <0.05). Conclusion Serum KL-6 can be used as a marker to determine the severity of viral pneumonia.
