An important difference between sleep and epilepsy is whether it can be awakened. Seizures with complex symptoms often occur during sleep. Some sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, dreams and night scares may be similar to complex partial epilepsy (CPS). This article reports a rare case of CPS patients with periodic alternations of sleep and excessive somnolence. Male, first visit in 1968 (4 years and 4 months) due to hyperactivity and periodic excessive sleepiness. Full-term births, birth weight 7.6 pounds, no abnormalities in term and neonatal period, later with only modest speech and speech function and exercise and other acquired skills normal. Family history along with seizures and sleep disorders. Obvious hyperactivity and impulsivity appeared at the end of the first year of age and became even more prominent at the age of 3 years. One obvious pattern of seizures began in 20 months.
