电信界对下一代电信网进行了10几年研究,从对GII的研究到对NGN的研究,一直在探求下一代电信网发展方向及其关键技术,对电信业务的多样化需求和简化电信运营网络的要求是电信网向下一代电信网发展的根本原因,下一代电信网的核心技术是电信网向下一代电信网发展的关键。文中对ATM技术和IP技术近年来的发展情况作了深入的分析和讨论,提出在传输资源不再稀缺的情况下,由于复杂性、没有现实业务等原因,ATM技术不能成为下一代电信网的核心技术;由于采用不面向连接的工作方式、简化了信令、克服了节点设备复杂化、与传送网技术的发展相匹配等因素,IP技术将是下一代电信网的核心技术,并应以电信网的设计理念来改造IP网。
