Ovarian epithelial carcinomas are the most common gynecological malignancies and their overall survival has not changed significantly over the past 30 years. There is a suggestion that a well-conceived tumor excision can increase the chance of complete remission. It is evidenced by secondary exploration that there is a higher survival rate after appropriate tumor resection compared with those with larger tumor burden after surgery. The so-called proper tumor resection residual tumor <2cm. The amount of residual tumor after surgery depends on many factors, including the stage, the extent of the lesion, and the skill and effort of the surgeon. A report showed that gynecologic oncologists performed surgical tumor remnants <2 cm to 98%, compared with only 38% of those with residual tumor <2 cm after gynecologic oncology surgery.
