The U.S. New York Times reported on June 18, 1981: A pathologist in San Francisco found that a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet has a special mechanism for fat deposition and arterial occlusion. Arterial occlusion is a major cause of heart disease in the United States and is a leading cause of death. This new finding was presented at a nutrition symposium sponsored by the American Heart Association at the Baltimore Hotel and is believed to be the first such demonstration that cholesterol in foods causes atherosclerotic plaque on the atherosclerotic wall Ways.
