There are many descriptions of informal organizations, but the most representative is the view of Elton Mayo. He believes that informal organizations are created and existed to meet the social needs of employees and form groups with certain traditional customs, rules, functions, and even specific etiquette. This point of view emphasizes that informal organizations are based on emotional logic as an important criterion, and are related to employees’ interaction frequency and value orientation at work. The higher the frequency, the higher the degree of similarity in value orientation, the more likely it is to form an informal organization.
