江西省宜春地区于1984年开始引进试种低酚棉。1984和85两年是由河南省农科院提供的豫无19品种的原种一代种子,在我区丰城县梅岗原种场试种,面积2亩,结果平均亩产皮棉71公斤,比在同样条件下的本地推广的赣棉78—7品种增产7.5%。1985年又在该县荣塘棉种场试种4亩,也获得与本地推广的沪棉204品种同样水平的产量。1986年我区高安县石脑乡相山村十户农户示范种植了10亩低酚棉,由湖南省棉科所提供的湘无11品种的原种一代种子。尽管从7月下旬开始,受到了连续57天的干旱威胁,仍然获得了平均亩产93.5公斤的较好收成,此在同样条件下栽培的波棉2号品种增产3.8%,同时还出现了一些高产典型,如棉农胡学武种1.19亩湘无11品种,平均亩产达到101.7公斤;棉农胡长树0.85亩低酚棉,折合亩产皮
