AT & T received a contract from the U.S. missile command to provide the U.S. military with 20 to 30 all-fiber guided missiles. According to Mark Lurch, head of AT & T’s Control Systems Division, the FOG-M (fiber-guided missiles) electronics and single-mode fiber windings are provided by the ministry. The exact number of contracts has not been disclosed so far, but Mark Lurch expects the contract to exceed $ 1 million. The Missile Command (MICOM) plans to complete trials of AT & T’s single-mode fiber to FOG-M by next May, and Lurch’s timetable is the fastest timeframe for the U.S. military to test and qualify a new weapon system. The fiber that AT & T will provide is a standard 8.3 / 125μm singlemode fiber, which is in line with the TAT-8 undersea fiber optic cable now under construction in the Atlantic
