This report examines the market for low-end and upscale LAN management software worldwide. Low-end LAN management software running on DOS / Windows operating system. High-end LAN management software is available on 32-bit operating systems such as UNIX, Windows NT and OS / 2; all except Capectron Spectrum, they run on standard SNMP platforms like SunNet Man-ager or HP OpenView. This report attributes LAN management and hub management to the same category. Although the current LAN environment includes a wide range of devices, hubs remain the most important integration point for all LAN management functions. Hub management software evolved into management capabilities that include a variety of routers and switches. Complex LAN environments and internetworking environments require advanced management capabilities to make the most of hardware investments. LAN manufacturers and hub manufacturers are making efforts on three fronts. The report will analyze these technology trends and estimate that by 1996, the management capabilities of LAN switches, ATMs, and virtual LANs will be key to manufacturers’ success. The key market projections are as follows: In 1994, LAN management software sales increased 49% to 33,024 units; sales increased 25.8% to $ 145 million. Between 1994 and 1999, LAN management software sales increased by an average of 18% annually, with an annual increase of 9%. By 1999, sales will reach 75,547 units, sales will reach 223 million US dollars. The share of low-end LAN management software in the total market will increase from 59% in 1994 to 70.6% in 1999 due to the better Windows-based LAN management software.
