The International Dragon Boat Festival was first organized in the western hemisphere in June， 1983 in San Diego， California. This was the first time the American people had different activities to take part in to celebrate the Chinese festival.
Boston， Massachusetts—The best way to enjoy New England’s summer weather is to watch over 50 teams boating down the Charles River. The Boston Dragon Boat Festival is a total playground for lovers of boats. There are also many classes where you can learn to make Zongzi or fold and shape paper into butterflies and boats. Queens， New York - A sporting event would be easy to find in New York， because over 170 teams were in the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York last year. Located in Flushing， a neighborhood known for its Asian food， the festival has served traditional food like bubble tea， dumplings and shaved ice. If you’re lucky， you can get some food for free while enjoying traditional dances and boat racing.
San Francisco， California - The best part of the San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival is that it’s free. You can keep both the kids and your money happy while making chopstick dragons， riding the choo choo train， or trying a hand at rock climbing. Don’t forget to have a taste of Kara’s Cupcakes， a favorite for those with a sweet-tooth. Make sure you catch acts like the fan dance and the Wu Shu performance.
