The expansive soils in the northern and central Sichuan Basin are widely distributed. This article focuses on several major factors that affect the deformation of the expansive soil foundation in this area and its engineering characteristics. The studied area is generally located at latitude 30-32.5°N and east longitude at 104.5-106.5°, including Guangyuan, Jizhong and South, Peng’an, Nanchong, Wusheng and Mianyang, Handan, Zhongjiang, Santai, Yanting, Shehong, Suining, etc. County (city). The expansive soil in this area is mainly the Quaternary Pleistocene fluvial facies and alluvial, alluvial slopes, slope residuals, and ice water deposits.
