枯荣相济是盆景创作中的重要主题之一,也是艺理中的残缺美在盆景艺术中的直观表现。绘画中的留白,书法中的枯笔,篆刻中的残边,雕塑中的断臂,和盆景中表现“枯木逢春”意蕴的作品一样,都是典型的残缺造境。残缺美并不是指以残求缺,而是以残寓全,以缺衬满,反映在盆景艺术中,作品中的残缺必须以表现树木的生机为归宿,强调旺盛的生命力和坚韧不屈的精神,借一个现在时髦的词语来说,即要表现树木的“正能量”。
