As a way of thinking, stereotypes are simplistic views of one group member on another group of members and have an impact on people’s intercultural communication. The notion of stereotypes in Don Quixote is not only an integral part of the plot but also a force that drives the plot forward. The stereotypes of Don Quixote and Sancho’s novels, as well as their manipulation of stereotypes, show that author Cervantes unconsciously praised the “Albert” of the Spanish Empire and the colonialism of ordinary Spanish people in overseas dependencies Imagination reveals the cultural meaning of distorted stereotypes that do not allow for effective cross-cultural communication.
